Flower Tower Cake
Who’d have guessed that a consultation for a very special birthday cake that started with an idea for a camera cake would turn into this fabulous flower tower cake creation.
I was so pleased with the original concept and had been looking forward to making the flowers and butterflies for weeks – started mixing colours and kept going until i was happy with them: that took ten days on & off.
There are three types of cake in this flower tower cake: the base is a traditional fruit cake with marzipan covering, next up (and the crescent cakes attached) are in chocolate and the top cakes are lemon sponge. The first mix of fondant for the covering was too yellow & did’t do the cake justice. So i redid the covering – much happier with the result.
Just before i moved it, all the decorations went on. WOW ! how happy was i with the result. By now it was a very heavy cake so i was starting to wonder about moving it some miles to the party venue – and set it up on a turntable there (click link for video)
As I finished the flower tower cake i thought – wow, how fabulous would that be as a wedding cake.
