This simple but effective cake went to The Vermont Hotel in Newcastle for a wedding.
Four tiers for this wedding cake for a lovely couple delivered to a fabulous setting at Wood Hill Hall near Otterburn.
From the bottom up, Lemon Drizzle Cake, Carrot Cake, Victoria Sponge, Rich Chocolate Cake. On the outside fondant icing mixed to match the weddings colour theme. The rose on the top is sugar paste, along with the cameo’s. The innovation for the cake is a printed edible lacework for the base of each tier.
Congratulations Andrew & Gillian !
Congratulations to Tracy & Paul on their wedding at Jesmond Dene House. Its a lovely setting so I stopped off for afternoon tea with other half after setting up this 4 tier wedding cake with its sugar paste rose cascade. The cakes were (from base to top) carrot and walnut, lemon drizzle, fruit and orange & almond (gluten free).
A bit unusual to do fruit 3 tiers up, but a bit of structure to support can work wonders! Everything you can see is edible, with 3 colours of rose, two of which matched the flowers, bouquet, bridesmaids dresses and the mens accent colours.
I set the wedding cake up at the Grand Hotel in Tynemouth. three tiers – each really tall – with edible sugar paste lacework around the base of each layer. The flowers are edible sugar paste roses as well. Apart from the ribbon & some structure to keep it up, everything edible.
Next time I’ll take the picture from the other side so it’s properly lit, rather than having to boost the light & getting this slightly out of focus grainy look….duh. I suppose that’s why i’m a cake maker rather than a wedding photographer.
This wedding cake was for a couple with a connection to Finland – the home of the moomins apparently. The wedding was going to be at St Marys Island, and one of the moomins stories has a lighthouse in, so of course it had to have a lighthouse on.
I’m getting lots of practice at gluten free and wedding cakes. i delivered this to Langley Castle one weekend recently. The outer cover is marzipan – not really easy to get a nice finish on, but i think i got it on the day.
the bottom 2 tiers were lemon drizzle sponge (which is a popular gluten free at the moment) and the top layer is gluten free fruit cake.
